For his second book Mikey has decided to include several stories in three different settings. He tackles the subject of test drives and attempts to make the case that some of these are actually interesting. Having been on several test drives over the past 30+ years I find this hard to believe. The second set of stories deals with elk hunting. To wrap things up, Mikey gives us a glimpse into vacuous space and spins some yarns about his daughters.
I have never been on a crazy test drive. I've never been on an exciting test drive. My least fun test drive was with Mikey in a stripped down Corolla. Ugh!! It's like a motel 6 on wheels. In fact, the idea of going on multiple test drives in one day makes me want to inflict bodily injury, probably on myself.
Somehow there is this image in my brain that has Mikey sleeping through a Dukes-of-Hazard style chase, only to wake up later having no memory of it happening. That memorable test drives do happen and that Mikey, at this distant vantage point, can remember and share them is remarkable. Personally, I think he is making the whole thing up.
I think everyone will enjoy the elk story. For guys, it's a tale of outdoor adventure. For the ladies it's proof positive that you will never understand us. It is a true work of probable truth stretching. I personally am not a hunter. However I do fish and common wisdom says that fisherman always lie. I imagine hunters are the same. Even if there is not one shred of truth, the story about hunting elk is a fun read.
Now regarding Mikey's I-dot Blondes, I have my own personal experiences. If anything, Mikey is doing some judicious tempering. Although there is also a pride factor at work here. Not Mikey's pride. I think he is appropriately horrified and concerned for his daughters' safety and welfare. It is the blondes who are proud. I'm told that they are enjoying this writing process and have been active in offering up stories for consideration.
